Known Issues

The following outlines known issues with the current version of STAAD.Pro and suggested workarounds where possible:

Note: In previous releases, known issues which had already been resolved were still included in the "Known Issues" list. To avoid confusion and simplify this list for users, only the outstanding known issues at the time of release are included here.
ID Publishing Notes WorkAround
487636 Known Issue: The option to set the direction of ONEWAY FLOOR load using the parameter TOWARD a given member occasionally fails to direct the load in panels where a beam on a longer edge of the perimeter of the enclosed boundary is shorted than the shorter edge. If the direction of loading is not displayed as expected, select an alternative member in the floor set. For floors groups defined that encompass multiple enclosed areas, try breaking these into separate floor groups and applying the floor load to each one individually.
487652 Known Issue: The cross section capacity check performed in the Indian steel design of slender wide flange sections uses the full section profile. There are pending clarification to determine if this or a reduced section profile should be used when under combined bending and shear. Manual checks should be performed where a wide flange profile is both slender and subject to both bending and shear.
487670 Known Issue: The method that is used to calculate the equivalent static seismic loading to the IBC 2018 (ASCE 7 20186) publication includes the provision in the exception 2 defined in ASCE 7-2016 11.4.8, although applies this to structures where the suite class is defined as D, in the application it is applied to all site classes. The required force FV should be calculated by hand according to the code and assigned using the FV parameter in the IBC 2018 definition.
487697 Known Issue: For models which have closely modes, a dynamic analysis can produce differences in the individual modal mass participation on some workstations some newer Intel Xeon platform processors. However, the observed variations of the principal analysis results is typically minor. No workaround at this time
487774 Known Issue: Inclined node loads defined with direction using a reference node or absolute coordinate, applies the load in a negative relative direction Only use the ABSOLUTE reference or separate the load into the global components
487893 Known Issue: Wind loading on open structures with inclined members assigned with beta angles are not accurately determined. These members should be loaded using a manual method.
488029 Known Issue: The wind loading routine does not account for beta angles on angle profiles There is no workaround at this time.
488183 Known Issue: Creating a mesh with a parametric model using the 'basic', i.e. triangular elements fails to include all the defined density points into the mesh when the application base units has been set to 'Metric'. Close the model, set the configuration base units to 'English', open the model and create the mesh. Save and close the model, reset the base units to 'Metric'.
488192 Known Issue: The deflection check to SP 16.330.2011 for serviceability does not report the results at the location of the maximum local displacement. No workaround available at this time.
488252 Known Issue: The Russian concrete design code SP63.13330.2012 does not provide reliable beam results No workaround at this time
488254 Known Issue: The Russian concrete design code SP63.13330.2012 does not provide reliable column results No workaround at this time
488255 Known Issue: The Russian concrete design code SP63.13330.2012 does not provide reliable column design results. No there is currently no workaround.
488276 Known Issue : When reporting the results for a deflection check to the Russian steel code SP 16.13300:2017, triggered by the assignment of a DFF parameter, output can include an additional section with details of a strength check that is not relevant to the deflection checks. The deflection checks are based on a test of the value of L/maximum deflection between the start and and end nodes of the member (unless DJ1 and DJ2 specified), thus select an alternative design code such as the Eurocode EN 1993-1-1 with the TRACK 4 setting.
488340 Known Issue: Mass participation reported for response spectrum loading using SP 14:13300.2011 and SNiP II-7-81 can result in a greater magnitude than that included in the model when RIGID FLOOR DIAPHRAGMS are included. Avoid the use of RIGID FLOOR DIAPHRAGMS in a model that used the SNiP or SP 14.13330.2011 response spectrum load cases.
488353 Known Issue: The tool Geometry>Mirror is used with the option 'Mirror Member Orientation', the member orientation is not being assigned to match a mirror of the original. Do not use this option, but simply perform the mirror operation, select the new members and use the tool in the menu Tools>Redefine Incidence to swap the member ends.
488399 Known Issue: The Member Query dialog box does not display the forces correctly for load cases analysed with a non linear analysis such as Direct Analysis, P-Delta and GNL where secondary effects need to be considered in establishing the changes of force along the member length. The member results should be obtained from the Post Processing mode, Beam>Graphs page.
488480 Known Issue: The ISM interoperability does not import/export the coefficient of thermal expansion (alpha) in the correct units. The details of materials imported from an ISM repository should be checked that the correct unit has been used with the alpha coefficient.
488487 Known Issue: There are currently a number of undocumented OpenSTAAD functions for accessing User Table details in the STAAD model that are displayed when browsing the OpenSTAAD functions. These are incomplete and should not be used at this time.
488517 Known Issue: The User Report currently does not include the following data Definitions (Load Generators) 1) Snow Load 2) Seismic - Floor weights, reference loads, element weights 3) Pushover definitions 4) Direct Analysis definitions 5) Time History Definition Spectrum, missing mass, cdamp/mdamp option? Loading data 1) Seismic load 2) PMember loading is combined into a general member load 3) Floor Load 4) Snow Load assignment 5) Response Spectra Assignment for code based methods 6) Temperature load - lateral 7) Time History assignment factor and rel/abs Details of the static seismic load generators should be obtained from a printout of the input file or output file.
488518 Known Issue: The current user report does not include details of the various Static Seismic Load definitions that can be defined in the model when the item Load Generators and Loading Items is included in the report. Details of the static seismic load generators should be obtained from a printout of the input file or output file.
515550 Known Issue: It has been reported that on some computers, assigning IS456 concrete design parameters can occasionally cause the application to crash. No work around at this time
524650 Known Issue: Assigning a lateral release on the end of a member or finite element, i.e. FX., PY or FZ, the reported intermediate displacements do not account for the separation of the degree of freedom and thus does not correctly display the member displacement. Use two nodes defined at the same location and connect together with a suitable MASTER/SLAVE specification.
524656 Where finite elements have been assigned releases that disconnect lateral degrees of freedom, i.e. FX, FY and FZ, do not show the separation of the plate from the node in the displacement diagrams if there is a force which would cause separation, although the analysis results have taken the disconnection into account. Provide duplicate nodes at the shared location and connect with master/slave connections with the required connectivity.
541629 Known Issue: On computers where there is a restriction on creating the AppData folder, STAAD.Pro will fail to start. Other than using an alternative computer, there is no workaround available at this time.
598090 Known Issue: The Russian steel design to SP 16.13300:2017 includes checks for member stability according to equation 113 (when the value of mx >5). This includes calculation of the stability factor phi-b as defined in appendix Zh. However there is a parameter SBLT which indicates the number of lateral bracing restraints along the length of the member. These setting of this parameter is currently not used in determining the value of phi-b and thus may result in a conservative estimate of the member capacity. No workaround available at this time.
635507 Known Issue: On some computers running Windows 10 version 2004 (10.0.19041), after completing a session in the Steel AutoDrafter or Steel Connection Design Workflow and selecting a different workflow, STAAD.Pro can crash No workaround available at this time.
